A Bird Who Doesn't Travel Far

Most other shorebirds migrate to arctic and subarctic areas to breed. The Piping Plover breeds and winters in temperate areas of North America. This often means that their habitat of choice is often used by humans as well.

Researchers believe that the Piping Plovers' numbers are dropping dues to threats posed by various predators. Humans often make use of its habitat, this also effects its population decline. For these reasons the Piping Plover is officially designated as "endangered" in Canada.
